History
After several years and many calls
to his studio asking, "Do you give lessons?," Bill van Gilder
decided to create a school for pottery in 2000. Along with others he
created the school to give everyone the opportunity and experience to
work with clay, whether the goal is to build pottery by hand, learn
to throw at the potter's wheel, or research and learn about clays, glazes,
kilns and more. At its location in the Wye Creek Center in Frederick,
MD, the school is equipped with twelve potters' wheels; a slab roller,
extruder, and kiln; a selection of glazes, slips, and clays; and plenty
of work space and ample storage areas for students' work and supplies.
